My Picture

I am David K Bruner, a creative photographer and artist in San Francisco’s MID-MArket Street (MIDMA) district specializing in HEADSHOTS & PORTRAITS that are unique, creative and personalized to each individual. I also create photo illustrations, photographic art, pop art, books for actors and models, and design on line portfolios "digital portfolios." I work in both film and digital, black + white and color. I have always enjoyed watching & photographing people. My favorite subjects are mostly unusual people as well as musicians, writers and i love everyday people too.

My interest in photographing people began at a very young age using a Instamatic Hawkeye camera. At the age of 14, I started using a super 8 movie camera to create my own sci-fi productions. In Chicago, I worked for a production company and modeling agency, where I produced photographs for area billboards. I earned a degree in commercial art. While in advertising my work was twice recognized by American Advertising Awards®, or "ADDYs. I am a recipient of grants from both ART MATTERS, NYC and this year from VISUAL AIDS a NY organization that promotes the work of photographic artists living with AIDS. Before moving back to San Francisco, I lived in Long Beach and freelanced for several magazines including Dot News Magazine Long Beach & was a featured creative photographer for Gorgeous magazine, Los Angeles.

The Whole Picture

I always ask my model or client to tell me how they see their photos & their overall self. This way i can style them & design their entire image in a way that best suits them, whether you are Mr. a Ms. or an Mx. I also assist with clothing and overall styling, the whole picture.

Editing & Finishing

I air brush & retouch, mostly hand/spot retouching. I can make your photo look like a piece of art. I put extra effort into making it look like it's not retouched, regardless of how much is asked of me. I am always looking for interesting people as models, diverse, everyday people - people with unique tattoos, body shapes & androgynous looks. I am greatly influenced by San Francisco & it's people, Hitchcock, Si-Fi movies & music. I incorporate my photography, computer skills, and graphic arts background and channel it into other areas. Logo designs, original t-shirt designs & WALL ART for HOME or OFFICE.
I am available for consultations Tuesday-Saturday by appointment. I’m affordable and very confidential. For appointment, any questions or free consultation send us a message via our site www.davidkbruner.com or call 415 215-0083.
I am not Inc. or a company. I have no one to answer to but the people i work with! I am a creative freelance photographer & graphic design artist.

"Wheel" Series
photographed Nov. 2012 - January 2013
Initial idea & concept from a found object to a series of photographs.

I am entranced by The City. From the windows of my loft above the heart of Market Street, I observe the pulse of The City with its clanging streetcars and honking taxi cabs. Its people, watching. I found myself idealess!
I like doing more than just shooting pics of people and wanted to do both, something different & say something about the changes going on in the city.

I like circles (circle of life) and have been a strong believer in alternative ways of transportation since the late 70's. After a number of dreams, I woke and said to myself "it's right in front of you?”

One day I was sitting at the window and looking down on Market St. It was a busy morning. The cyclists were speeding through the intersection of Market & Mason/Turk. I watched the random entropy of the street, the recklessness of the buses, street cars, cyclist & people. They weaved dangerously together as The City found balance.
It was right in front of me. This inspired me to create a series of photographs. A kind of tribute to everyone making a change, the joy, innocence of the riders as they ride towards a solution for a greener future. Since 2012 Market Street has restricted cars on this part of the street, it's still busy but I love it.
